Safety Shower Guidelines
A safety shower must be placed in a readily accessible location. It should be at the same working level as where the work is being performed and not in a corridor, doorway, or escape route. A safety shower should also be accessible within 10 seconds or within 30 meters of walking distance. The location of a safety shower must always be well illuminated and must have a universal indication in the form of a pictogram. A safety shower must always deliver at least 15 minutes of continuous clean, running water.
European Standard EN 15154-5:
- Safety shower: minimum 60 liters per minute.
- Eye wash: minimum 6 liters per minute
- Flush time of at least 15 minutes.
- Water temperature between 18°C and 25°C.
- Unobstructed access and placement within 20 meters or 10 seconds from the potential hazard.
The shower head must also be set to wet the entire body to rinse off harmful substances everywhere. During the 15 minutes, a safety shower must be able to generate a minimum of 80 liters of water per minute. An eye wash must provide at least six liters per minute. It is important that the water pressure is adjusted so that the water jets do not damage the eyes.
All safety showers from Nedelko comply with all specified guidelines, such as NEN-EN 15154-3 and DIN 12899-3:2009.
American Standard ANSI Z358.1:
- Safety shower: minimum 76 liters per minute.
- Eye wash: minimum 11 liters per minute
- Flush time of at least 15 minutes.
- Water temperature between 18°C and 25°C.
- Unobstructed access and placement within 10 seconds from the potential hazard.
